A channel setting means that a band has a channel or ident in which small stones are set and secured between two metal bars. A channel set engagement ring has either a band or a halo that is chanel set. The center stone will be set in a different style. Channel setting became a popular style in the 1990’s.

If you want extra sparkle and your accent stones to be securely held, channel setting is a great choice. It’s a low profile setting, so it’s good for those that have an active lifestyle, work with their hands, or are rough on their jewelry. Channels tend to create a metal-forward look, so they’re not a good choice for people who want to see more stone, less metal. It’s also not a good choice if you’re not positive of ring size.
