ASJ: How did you and Govinda meet?

Gabbi: Govinda and I met back in high school. He was a cool skater boy that my friend dated for a week freshman year. We reconnected working as the back stock crew at Abercrombie & Fitch when I was about to graduate high school.

ASJ: What is your favorite tradition as a couple?

Gabbi: Every time that we check out a new city, we always do a pizza assessment. We try at least two different spots and rate them on our own scale. It gets pretty ridiculous. It’s safe to say that our bodies are at least 10% pure pizza.

ASJ: Tell us about your engagement!

Gabbi: Govinda went all out for the engagement. My sister surprised me with a weekend trip to San Francisco. We were out and about in the city, grabbing breakfast, and exploring the park. We had decided to visit the SF Botanical Gardens, specifically to see the Camellia garden. Camellia is my mother’s name and with her no longer being with us, we felt it was destiny to go pay tribute. When we got there, we found this sweet moss-ridden deck. Out of nowhere, Govind appeared, saying the sweetest words. I was shocked and literally sprang up and down saying “Yay!” repeatedly.

ASJ: What makes your wedding unique?

Gabbi: Well for one thing, we actually had 3 weddings! One almost a week after we got engaged. We both didn’t want to wait any longer. The second wedding was in Miami. in my cousins backyard- completely DIY. The last wedding was a traditional Swayamvar, here in Colorado. One of the unique aspects of the last wedding was how we camped out the night before. It was great singing and roasting marshmallows the night before, seeing our friends and family collide.

“It warms my heart every time I let people know that my ring is custom made for me, that the stones were hand-picked by Govinda. It’s such a sweet and intimate touch that I really appreciate.”

Custom Engagement Ring

ASJ: What advice do you have for couples that are engagement ring shopping?

Gabbi: Be honest with your partner, but not expecting. I have always wanted an opal as the main stone on my ring when the time felt right, I made sure to let Govinda know, as well as my sister and best friend. It helped that he had some guidance from my side, without these heavy expectations. My favorite part of Govinda working with Abby Sparks Jewelry was the personalization. It warms my heart every time I let people know that my ring is custom made for me, that the stones were hand-picked by Govinda. It’s such a sweet and intimate touch that I really appreciate. Hopefully, we’ll be back for custom bands!
