What Is A Ruby?

Rubies are a precious gemstone that is part of the corundum mineral family, and most well known in red coloring; the word sapphire derives from the latin word for “red.” Rubies occur in shades of deep pinks and dark reds, but when blue they’re what we call sapphires which are also part of the corundum family. Rare rubies can fetch more per-carat than any other gemstone, and color is the biggest value factor. Rubies are the birthstone for July and has been deemed throughout history and across cultures as the “lord” and “leader” of the gemstones, and the most precious. Rubies are said to symbolize love, passion, and power and to benefit mental health, physical health and vitality.

  • Available in a variety of color saturation
  • An impressive place in history and storied metaphysical properties give rubies a unique allure

Who Is A Ruby Engagement Ring Right For?

Rubies are not a good choice if you want a brilliant, sparkling stone: they do not have the look of a diamond.Rubies are one of the most durable jewelry grade stones, second only to diamonds and moissanite, so they’re one of the best choices for an engagement ring. However, if you lead an extremely active lifestyle, work with your hands or are rough on your jewelry, a colored diamond may be a better choice. If you want a timeless, classic look then a white stone may be a better choice. If you want a bold, head-turning engagement ring, then rubies are a great choice.
